PITTSBURGH, PA – The ninth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team twice rallied from a one-goal deficit to earn a 2-2 tie at 15
th-ranked Carnegie Mellon Sunday afternoon at the CMU Soccer Field. The tie is the second straight for the Blue Jays on the road as they drew, 1-1, at 17
th-ranked Messiah in their last outing. Johns Hopkins is now 2-0-2 on the year, while the Tartans are 2-1-1.

The Tartans grabbed the first of their two leads on the day in the 18
th minute when Breana Valentovish headed home a corner off the foot of Alana Frederick. The deficit was the first of the year for the Blue Jays.

The lead was short-lived as the Blue Jays got the equalizer two minutes later off a corner of their own. Sophomore
Katie Sullivan played the corner to the near side of the box and Carnegie Mellon goalie Olivia Brand couldn't keep it out as he came forward to even things up.

CMU had its one-goal lead back just under six minutes into the second half as Valentovish sent a ball into the box off a free kick from 40 yards out that Catherine MacNichol was able to get a head on and sneak inside the post just out of the reach of Blue Jay goalie
Emma Huntzinger.

The Blue Jays got the tying goal just under six minutes later when
Breukelen Woodard scored off a scramble in the box as she poked one past Brand from in tight as Hopkins turned up the pressure after the MacNichol goal.

Neither team could find the back of the next over the final 33 minutes, although he Blue Jays pressured throughout the final third of the game. Johns Hopkins held an 8-2 advantage in shots in the second half, but Brand posted two of her three saves in that time to keep things even.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Wednesday, September 14 when the Blue Jays welcome Randolph-Macon to Homewood Field (7 pm).

Notes of Interest: Sullivan has at least one point in all four Johns Hopkins games this season and has a goal in three of the four. Woodard has scored a goal in three of four games thus far. Johns Hopkins is now 8-1-2 all-time against Carnegie Mellon … each of the last five games has been decided by one goal or finished in a tie.
