SWARTHMORE, PA – The 12
th-ranked Johns Hopkins men's soccer team shutout host Swarthmore, 1-0, in both teams' Centennial Conference opener Saturday night.

Andres Chacon had a good look in the 14
th minute to put the Blue Jays on top. Sophomore
Diego Elias created a turnover deep in the Garnet end and Chacon took a low, hard shot from 25 yards out, but Max Kral was able to get to his left to make the save.
Ten minutes later, Hopkins had the lead with what turned out to be the game's only goal. After a Swarthmore foul near the endline, inside the box, sophomore
Ian Whamond stepped to the spot and converted the penalty kick to stake the Blue Jays to the 1-0 lead.

Mike Burch nearly made it a two-goal game in the 89

Alex Morgret played a long ball into the Swarthmore end, junior
Francis Meyer carried it deep and played a nice through ball to Burch, who took a tough shot from close range, but Kral kicked it away.
Hopkins had a 9-6 advantage in shots and a 2-0 edge in corners. Morgret finished with two saves in posting his sixth shutout of the season. Kral finished with five saves in the loss for the Garnet.
JHU returns to action on Saturday, September 24 as the Blue Jays host the Haverford Fords. The Centennial Conference contest is slated for a 6:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
