BALTIMORE, MD – The sixth-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team got goals from seven different players in a 9-0 win over Randolph-Macon in non-conference action at Homewood Field.
Hopkins opened the scoring late in the first quarter after some nifty stick work by senior
Anna Scott. She intercepted the ball deep in the Blue Jay end and ran up field, carrying the ball on her stick. She then sent a long pass to freshman
Grace Waldeck, who took one touch and centered the ball into the circle. Senior
Sam Chabot tipped the ball into the middle of the goal with 3:09 to play in the quarter.
JHU doubled its lead at the 5:32-mark of the second quarter as the Blue Jays cashed in on a penalty corner. Senior
Siena Urbanski inserted the corner to senior
Olivia Fox, who banged home a hard shot from the top of the circle. Just 5:27 into the third quarter, the Blue Jays made it a 3-0 game. Sophomore
Ava Balacek dropped a short pass to Waldeck in the middle of the circle, and she tipped a shot over the Yellow Jackets goalie. Then with 55 seconds remaining, graduate student
Abby Birk dribbled through the RMC defense, before slotting a pass to junior
Jen Mehra in the middle of the circle. She one-timed the pass inside the left post.
Waldeck got her second of the night at the 5:07-mark in the fourth, thanks to some nice ball movement from sophomore
Grace Nockolds. Less than three minutes later, Nockolds was on the receiving end. Freshman
Megan Chang intercepted the ball and then sent a hard hit into the circle. With her back to the goal, Nockolds redirected the ball off the ground and into the goal.
Senior
Tessa Erickson pushed the lead to 7-0 just 81 seconds later, when she tipped in a shot from junior
Mikayla Schoff off a Blue Jay corner. Senior
Siena Urbanski put home a rebound off a blocked shot at 57:42 and just two minutes later, Erickson scored off a short pass from Mehra to wrap up the scoring.
Hopkins outshot Randolph-Macon 43-1 and had a 22-3 advantage in corners. Senior
Morgan Seward, junior
Alexis Loder and freshman
Phoebe Williams combined for the shutout for the Blue Jays. Cathryn Short made nine saves in 54:30 of action, before giving way to Kelsey Seiler, who finished with one save. The Yellow Jackets also got a pair of defensive saves from Anna Scheir and one from Annika Egerland.
