Jackson, Dandridge Lead Hopkins in 2-0 Shutout of Shenandoah

BALTIMORE, MD – The fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team got a goal in each half to shutout visiting Shenandoah Wednesday night in non-conference action at Homewood Field. The Blue Jays move to 7-0-2 on the season while the Hornets fall to 6-2-1.

After applying heavy pressure for the first 25 minutes, the Blue Jays finally broke through in the 29th minute as the Shenandoah defense mishandled a ball in front of the goal and Rachel Jackson fired into an open net to give the Blue Jays a 1-0 lead.  Jackson's goal came on the Blue Jays' 15th shot in the first 30 minutes of the game.  Hopkins had nearly grabbed a 1-0 lead less than 90 seconds earlier when Lily Gaston rang one off the crossbar and the Hornet defense swept the rebound out of danger to keep the game scoreless.

The one -goal lead held until the 58th minute, when a Kendall Dandridge shot from the wing handcuffed Hornet goalie Kira Ketelhut and snuck inside the far post.  After receiving a drop pass from freshman Maria Romo-Nichols, Dandridge stepped in and sent one toward the far post that short-hopped Ketelhut and skipped past her to give the Blue Jays the 2-0 lead.

Graduate student Emma Huntzinger made one save to earn the shutout for the Blue Jays. Ketelhut made 12 saves in 66 minutes of action before giving way to Kasie Kilmer, who finished with three stops. Hopkins had a 36-2 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in corners. The Blue Jays held the Hornets scoreless for the first time since October 19, 2021.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Wednesday, October 5 when the Blue Jays welcome Gettysburg to Homewood Field for a Centennial Conference matchup with the Bullets (7 pm).

Notes of Interest:  Jackson now has 34 career goals, which ranks seventh in program history • She is also tied for seventh with 82 career points • Hopkins runs its season-opening unbeaten streak to nine games and its regular season unbeaten streak to 26 games.
