BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team battled host Lycoming to a 1-1 draw Sunday afternoon in non-conference action.
The Blue Jays put a lot of pressure on the Warriors from the start, but it took until the 54
th minute before they could break through. Junior
Aidan Dunphy turned on his defender and played a through ball to senior
Axel Whamond, who had timed his run perfectly. Whamond took one touch around goalie Nick Wilke and then slotted home a low shot to the back post from 10 yards out.
The lead was short-lived as just two minutes and 13 seconds later, Lycoming got the equalizer. Christian Woobay took a shot from a tough angle that graduate student
Alex Morgret was able to get a hand on. However, the ball ricocheted right to Owen Magee, who was able to put it home from in-tight.
Hopkins stepped up the pressure following the Lycoming goal, but Wilke made a trio of saves in the final 25 minutes to keep the game level.
Morgret finished with a pair of saves for the Blue Jays while Wilke made six. Hopkins outshot Lycoming 11-3 and had four corners to two for the Warriors.
Hopkins returns to action on Tuesday, September 6 as the Blue Jays travel to Mary Washington. The non-conference tilt is slated for a 4:00 pm start.
