GRANTHAM, PA – The Johns Hopkins women's soccer team battled host Messiah to a 1-1 draw in a top-20 match-up Wednesday night. The Blue Jays remain unbeaten on the season at 2-0-1, while the Falcons also sport a 2-0-1 record.
Both teams had quality scoring chances in the early going. Kenzie Spodnik fired a shot toward to the right corner but the Blue Jays'
Emma Huntzinger knocked it away. Just over six minutes later, it was Hopkins' turn. Graduate student
Kaleigh Gallagher picked the bottom right corner on a hard shot, but Raegan Salamone made the save.
The Blue Jays wasted little time in the second half to grab the lead. In the 50

Breukelen Woodard poked the ball away from a Messiah defender deep in the Falcons' end. Graduate student
Rachel Jackson ran on to the ball, took one touch around a defender and then centered the ball. Sophomore
Katie Sullivan then one-time the cross with the outside of her foot and into the middle of the goal.
Just over a minute later, Rachael Tirjan rang a hard shot off the Blue Jay crossbar. Sullivan nearly made it 2-0 Hopkins in the 64
th minute with a low shot from distance, but Salamone scooped it up. In the 72
nd minute, Spodnik missed just wide on a header off a Falcons' corner kick. Messiah then drew level in the 86
th minute when Hannah Adair slipped home a loose ball off a corner.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, September 11 at 15
th-ranked Carnegie Mellon. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start.
