O'Neil Powers Blue Jays Past McDaniel, 55-48, in Westminster

Sophomore Nets Career-High 19 in Road Victory

WESTMINSTER, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team used a 14-2 second-half run to turn a 33-27 deficit into a 41-35 lead and the visiting Blue Jays never allowed host McDaniel closer than three points in the final 6:30 as Hopkins knocked off the Green Terror, 55-48, Thursday evening in the Gill Center.  The Blue Jays pick their sixth win in seven games and improve to 9-4 overall and 6-2 in the Centennial Conference, while the Terror slip to 6-7 overall and 4-4 in the Centennial.

The Green Terror used an 8-3 run to open the third quarter to extend a 25-24 halftime lead to 33-27 with just over five minutes remaining in the period.  A three-pointer from Elaina Beckett and a bucket from Lilana Overcash fueled the half-opening spurt for the Green Terror.

Forty seconds after Overcash's jumper that made it a six-point game, the Blue Jays jump-started their game-turning 14-2 run on a driving layup from sophomore Michaela O'Neil and Hopkins was even two minutes later after back-to-back layups from Jadyn Murray and O'Neil.  A pair of Overcash free throws for McDaniel and a Kendall Dunham jumper for the Blue Jays sent the game to the fourth quarter tied at 35; the fourth quarter was all Johns Hopkins.

A pair of Olivia Parisi free throws, an Elisabeth Peebles layup and a Macie Feldman pull up jumper capped the 14-2 run and gave the Blue Jays a 41-35 lead with just under seven minutes remaining.  The Green Terror scored five of the next seven points in a span of less than a minute, but an O'Neil layup ignited an 8-0 run for the Blue Jays that extended the lead to 51-40 with less than 90 seconds remaining and it remained at least a three-possession game the rest of the way.  O'Neil scored six of Hopkins' eight points during the decisive 8-0 run.
