ALLENTOWN, PA- Johns Hopkins went into Memorial Hall looking to pick up a key road win over a Mules team that pushed them to the brink at home earlier in the season. The Blue Jays were propelled by an excellent third quarter run that helped them get out to a double-digit lead and once again locked things down on the defensive end to come out with a 60-42 victory.
The first half was a back and forth affair between the two teams that saw Johns Hopkins take a slim 32-28 lead into the halftime break.
Olivia Parisi was strong on the offensive end in the first half leading the Blue Jays with 10 points while being a perfect 4-for-4 at the charity stripe.
Margaux Eripret answered the bell on the other side for the Mules, dropping 11 points to keep Muhlenberg in the game.
The game was tied at 35 halfway through the third quarter and was still very much up in the air. Johns Hopkins decided that it was time to take the game over. The Blue Jays went on a 14-2 run in the final five minutes of the period to take the wind out of the sails of the Mules. JHU shot 7-for-9 from the field during the run and took a 51-37 lead into the final quarter.
The Blue Jays are one of the top scoring defenses in the country and they continued to live up to that reputation in the second half of the game. Muhlenberg only managed 14 points combined in the third and fourth quarter and were held to 4-for-29 (14%). Johns Hopkins has now held eight conference opponents to under 50 points on the season and they are 8-0 in those games.
Parisi led the team in scoring with 12 points and also grabbed four rebounds. Freshman
Macie Feldman had an impressive game with 11 points, six rebounds, and four assists. The team got contributions up and down the roster with 18 points coming off the bench.
Eripret was the only Mule who reached double digit points in the game with 15. Emily Unger was next on the score sheet with nine. Muhlenberg dropped to 7-9 (6-5) on the season.
The Blue Jays remain atop the Centennial Conference standings after the victory. The win is their sixth consecutive and they are now 12-4 (9-2 CC) on the season. JHU will continue to move through the conference schedule when the Jays take on Washington College on the road on Tuesday, January 24
th (7 pm).
