Hopkins Falls at Dickinson in Centennial Action

Three-Game Blue Jay Winning Streak Snapped

CARLISLE, PA – In a showdown of two of the top women's basketball teams in the Centennial Conference, host Dickinson scored a 62-40 victory over visiting Johns Hopkins in the Kline Center Wednesday night.  The Red Devils never relinquished the lead after the first quarter and improved to 8-3 overall and 5-1 in the Centennial, while the Blue Jays had a three-game winning streak snapped and slip to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the Centennial.

After falling behind 18-10 at the end of the first quarter, the Blue Jays needed less than two minutes to slice the deficit to 18-15 as freshman Kendall Dunham drained a three and added a short jumper to make it a one possession game.  As it turned out, that would be as close as the Blue Jays would get over the final 28 minutes.

The Red Devils built the lead to seven on four occasions in the final eight minutes of the opening half and used a Kate Montgomery triple in the final minute to hold a 29-22 lead at intermission.

Dickinson opened the third quarter with a 10-1 run to push the 29-22 lead to 39-23 with just under three minutes remaining in the period.  Five different players scored during the spree for the Devils, who eventually carried a 41-27 lead into the final period.

Johns Hopkins made an early fourth quarter push as the Jays used an 8-0 run to trim a 45-29 deficit to 45-37 with seven minutes remaining; junior Zoe Soule's five points highlighted the quick spurt for Johns Hopkins, which kept the deficit between seven and nine points for nearly three minutes before Dickinson used a 14-1 game-ending run to account for the 22-point margin of victory.
