Johns Hopkins and Haverford Battle to 1-1 Draw

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins men's soccer team battled visiting Haverford to a 1-1 draw Saturday afternoon in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays are now 9-3-4 overall and 4-2-2 in the Centennial, while the Fords are 4-3-8 with a 2-2-4 mark in the CC.

The Blue Jays had a couple of good chances early, but it took until the 35th minute for the home team to get on the board. Sophomore Jackson Shapiro played the ball to classmate Will Andrus, who was making an overlapping run just over midfield. Andrus dribble down the left sideline and crossed the ball into the middle of the box. Junior Ian Whamond one-timed a right-footed shot just inside the right post to put the Blue Jays on top.

The Fords drew level in the 70th minute when Thomas Vanni forced a turnover deep in the Jays' end. He took one touch and then fired a left-footed shot to the bottom right corner. Sophomore Scotty Coleman nearly won it for Hopkins in the 90th minute with a header off a great ball from Andrus, but it banged off the crossbar.

Hopkins had a 15-12 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corners. Senior Drew Valsamedis finished with two saves while Dylan Ioffreda tallied five for the Fords.

Hopkins closes out the regular season on Saturday, October 28 at Dickinson. The Centennial Conferenc contest is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
