GETTYSBURG, PA – Sophomore
Avery Clapp swept the backstroke events as the Johns Hopkins men's swim team won eight events to beat host Gettysburg, 148-114, Saturday afternoon.
Hopkins kicked off the day with a nearly six-second win in the 400 Medley Relay. The team of sophomore

Matthew Hartshorn and junior
Jonik Surprenant took second and third in the 1000 Free in the first individual event of the day. Hartshorn finished in 9:43.70 and Surprenant touched in 9:50.82. The Blue Jays then went one-two-three in the 200 Free. Senior
Kellen Roddy led the way as he clocked in at 1:41.69 for the win. Heymann finished in second in 1:44.25 and freshman
Will Dunlap touched in 1:44.95.
Clapp then picked up the first of his two wins as he swam to a first-place finish in the 100 Back with a time of 50.11. Lloyd finished in second place as he touched in 50.98. Castagno took second place in the 100 Breast with a time of 57.63, beating out Gettysburg's Charlie Cross by nine-hundredths of a second. Ji then placed fourth in 57.98.
Graduate student
Ike Shirakata finished in second in the 200 Fly with a time of 1:54.19. Ide followed in third place with a time of 1:55.48. Mayr finished in a close second in the 50 Free as he touched just five-hundredths of a second (21.30) out of first. Freshman
Adam Sandid then took fourth place with a time of 21.57.
Lloyd got the Blue Jays back in the win column as he grabbed the top spot in the 100 Free in 47.14. Sophomore
Shawn Zhou followed in third place with a time of 47.86. Clapp then earned his second win, beating the field in the 200 Back with a time of 1:48.78, nearly six seconds ahead of second place. Senior
Alex Ren took third place with a time of 1:56.27.
Limberg led a sweep of the top three spots in the 200 Breast as he clocked in at 2:05.27. Graduate student
Brandon Stride finished in 2:05.51 and Hartshorn took third in 2:06.30. Castagno then placed third in the 500 Free as he just edged Ji by 0.17 seconds.
Freshman
Rad Couture led a quartet of Blue Jays that went two through fifth in the 100 Fly. Couture finished in 51.81, just out-touching sophomore
Andrew Huang by five hundredths of a second. Sandid finished in 52.15 for fourth and Surprenant touched in 52.29. Shirakata and Roddy then went one-two in the 400 IM. Shirakata clocked in at 4:06.02 and Roddy followed closely in 4:06.35.
Hopkins ended the day the way it began – with a relay win. Sandid, Lloyd, Clapp and Heymann turned in a 3:05.62 to win the 400 Free Relay by nearly four seconds. Mayr, Zhou, freshman
Andrew Gilbert and Ide took third place in 3:11.98.
Hopkins returns to action in two weeks at the Bucknell Invitational, which is set for December 1-3.
