BALTIMORE, MD – Junior
Liz Falterer scored a pair of goals to lead the fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins field hockey team to a 2-0 win over Bryn Mawr in the Centennial Conference Semifinals Thursday night at Homewood Field.
Falterer put the Blue Jays on the board less than three minutes into the second quarter as JHU cashed in on a penalty corner. Senior
Jenna Halpin ripped a shot from the right side of the circle off the corner, but Charlene Basque was able to get a foot on it and kick it away. The ball came right to Falterer on the left side, she settled the ball and then slipped a low shot past Basque to give Hopkins the lead.
Midway through the third quarter, Hopkins took advantage of another corner and doubled its lead. Falterer took the insert at the top of the circle and passed to senior
Mikayla Schoff on her right. Schoff gave the ball right back to Falterer in the middle and she banged home the insurance goal.
Hopkins outshot Bryn Mawr, 9-2, and held the Owls to zero shots in the fourth quarter. JHU also had a 9-3 advantage in corners. Senior
Alexis Loder made a pair of saves to earn the shutout, the 15
th of her career. Basque finished with five saves in the loss.
Hopkins will host the winner of Swarthmore and Franklin & Marshall on Saturday in the Centennial Conference Championship game. The game is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
