Eight Pitchers Combine to Hold Cardinals to Just Five Hits

  • Score: #6 Johns Hopkins- 12, #13 Catholic- 3
  • Record: JHU (18-2), CUA (15-3)
  • Pitching Decision: W: Charles Monterrosa (3-0), L: Jake Kenney (1-2)
  • The Short Story: The Blue Jays hot bats traveled back home with them from Florida as they pushed across 12 runs to knock off the 13th-ranked Cardinals 12-3.

How It Happened

  • Isaiah Winikur wasted no time firing up the Blue Jays lineup in the top of the first inning. Winikur worked a full count to lead things off, and proceeded to send a screamer over the left field fence to put JHU up 1-0. Dillon Souvignier and Shawn Steuerer both reached with a single to put two on with one for Charlie Monterrosa. Monterrosa would join Winikur in the home run club as he sent a ball out to right center field, which was his first career home run, to give the Blue Jays an early 4-0 lead.
  • Catholic grabbed a run back in the bottom of the first after a Ben Nardi solo shot. The Blue Jays kept their foot on the gas, adding two more runs in the top of the second to push the lead to six. With two outs in the inning, Steuerer stripped a single down the left field line to plate Winikur and Sam Frank for his 19th and 20th RBI of the season.
  • Johns Hopkins next scoring outburst came in the seventh inning when they brought five runs in to give itself a comfortable 11-2 lead. Three of those runs came off the bat of Caleb Cyr who launched his fifth long ball of the season over the left field wall. Cyr now has the second highest home run total on the team so far this season.
  • JHU picked up one more run on an RBI hit by pitch for Matthew Chang while Catholic would scratch across one more run on the board as well but could not keep up with the hots bats of the Blue Jays as JHU came away with their 18th win of the season 12-3 over the Cardinals.
