#16 Blue Jays Complete Two-Game Sweep Over Roanoke

Monterrosa Hurls Five Shutout Innings in First Career Win

  • Score: #16 Johns Hopkins 7, Roanoke- 1
  • Records: JHU (7-0), Roanoke (6-7)
  • Pitching Decision: W: Charles Monterrosa, L: Mason Roy (0-1)
  • The Short Story: The Blue Jays received five solid innings from Charles Monterrosa, who earned his first career win, and jumped out to an early lead to complete the two-game sweep over Roanoke with a 7-1 win.
 How it Happened
  • For a third straight game, JHU were able to hang a crooked number in the first inning, plating two runs to get things started in the bottom of the first. The Blue Jays capitalized off a couple of walks that were issued, and Dillon Souvignier and Caleb Cyr both picked up RBI in the inning.
  • In the bottom of the third, Sam Frank stepped into the box with two runners on looking to extend the lead even further. Frank crushed a three-run homer to left center field, for his first long ball of the season, to give the Jays a nice cushion with a 5-0 lead.
  • JHU would match the 6-0 lead that they had in the game yesterday in the bottom of the fourth when Souvignier chopped an infield single over the mound for his second RBI of the game.
  • Roanoke again struggled to get things going offensively as they were held scoreless into the ninth inning. Nate Prince was able to break the shutout when he picked up an infield knock to score Mason Staz, but that would be the only highlight for the Maroons as they fell 7-1.
 Inside the Box Score
  • Blue Jays pitcher Charlie Monterrosa was impressive in his first career start on the mound as he tossed five scoreless, while only allowing one hit and punching out nine Maroons during his outing.
  • Souvignier has now picked up an RBI in every game he has started so far this season for JHU. He has also picked up multiple RBI in three games now this season.
  • Johns Hopkins was very patient at the plate, drawing nine walks in the game, which is a season high.
  •  Roanoke could only muster four hits in the contest and struck out a total of 13 times in the loss.
 Up Next
  • The Blue Jays will enjoy a couple of days off before they take on Juniata in a double header on Saturday, March 11th at Babb Field with game one starting at 1 pm.
