ANNAPOLIS, MD – The 15
th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat Franklin & Marshall, 5-0, in the Centennial Conference semifinals Friday night. The Blue Jays improve to 18-3 and advance to the conference title match.
The Blue Jays raced out to an early 2-0 lead before grabbing a hard-fought win at second to complete the doubles sweep.
Anjali Devireddy and
Christina Huynh took the first point with an 8-0 win over Rebecca Bellick and Amelia Squires at third.
Kamila Wong and
Jay Xiao then beat Cassidy Landau and Mackenzi Sherman, 8-1, at first and just like that it was 2-0 Hopkins.
Mary Beth Hurley and
Emily Javedan won the final three games of their match to take an 8-5 win over Jenna Harrison and Clara March Okuyama.
Xiao wasted little time in pushing the Blue Jays' lead to 4-0. They lost just one game in their win at second singles over Harrison (6-1, 6-0). Huynh then clinched the victory as she beat Bellick 6-1, 6-1 at fourth.
Hopkins will host 23
rd-ranked Swarthmore on Sunday in the Centennial Conference Championship. The match is slated for a 1:00 pm start at the JHU Tennis Courts. In the event of inclement weather, the match will be played at the Brigade Sports Complex in Annapolis, MD.
