The Short Story: The top-ranked Johns Hopkins baseball team got six, one-hit innings from starter Gabe Romano and the Blue Jays hit six home runs in an 11-0 win over Gettysburg at Babb Field on Saturday.
How It Happened
- The Blue Jays got solo home runs in each of the first three innings to jump to an early 3-0 lead. Alex Shane (1st inning), Shawn Steuerer (2nd) and Sam Frank (3rd) all went deep in the first three innings to give the Blue Jays a lead that was never challenged.
- Johns Hopkins broke the game open in the fourth with a five-run inning. Jimmy Stevens opened the frame with a home run to left, Dillon Souvignier added a two-run single and Steuerer added a two-run single to center to account for the five runs.
- While the Blue Jays were building the early lead, Romano was nearly perfect. He retired the first 14 batters he faced before surrendering a two-out walk in the fifth. The only hit he would allow in his six innings of work was a single to right by Mabret Levant to lead off the sixth.
- A Shane home run to lead off the sixth, a Steuerer homer to open the seventh and pinch-hit run-scoring single in the eighth from Jackson Roloff accounted for the Blue Jays' final three runs. The single for Roloff was the first of hit of his career.
