Johns Hopkins Downs Haverford, 7-2

BALTIMORE, MD – The 31st-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team beat visiting Haverford, 7-2, in a battle of Centennial Conference unbeatens Saturday. The Blue Jays improve to 13-3 overall and 7-0 in the CC while the Fords slip to 6-6 on the season and 4-1 in the conference.
 
Hopkins grabbed an early 3-0 lead as the Blue Jays dropped just five total games in doubles. Mary Beth Hurley and Emily Javedan took the first point of the match as they beat Rachael Fitzgerald and Summer Williams, 8-1, at second doubles. Kamila Wong and Jay Xiao then won by the same score at first over Ellie Esterowitz and Abbey Russano. Anjali Devireddy and Christina Huynh then closed out doubles with an 8-3 victory at third over Mimi Lavin and Abhishree Menon.
 
Celina Liu lost just two games in her victory at sixth singles over Erika Phanord, 6-0, 6-2. Esterowitz picked up a point for the Fords when she defeated Xiao 6-1, 6-4 at second. Hurley then clinched the win with a 6-0, 6-4 win at first over Russano. Wong prevailed in three sets over Lavin 6-3, 3-6, 1-0 (3) to push Hopkins' lead to 6-1. Fitzgerald responded with a 7-6 (3), 2-6, 1-0 (7) win over Devireddy at fourth to make it 6-2. Huynh wrapped up the match when she beat Williams 7-6 (4), 6-4 at fifth.
 
Hopkins returns to the court on Saturday, April 15 as the Blue Jays take on host and 30th-ranked Mary Washington. The non-conference match is slated for a 12:00 pm start.
 
Notes: Hopkins' 13 wins this season match its total from last season • JHU is now the lone undefeated team in the conference • Hurley now has 99 career wins (54 singles, 45 doubles).
