BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins placed three student-athletes on the 2023 College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America Men's Track and Cross Country Team it was announced by the organization today.  Senior Daniel Chen was named to the first team and senior Matthew Kleiman and junior Ahmed Elmogi were named to the second team.
 
To be eligible for CSC Academic All-America honors, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA, be a sophomore or above and have participated in 50 percent of the competitions that an institution schedules in either cross country, indoor track and field, or outdoor track and field.
 
The the Johns Hopkins men's cross country/track & field teams have now produced 11 Academic All-Americans, with six of those selections coming in the last four years. The three Academic All-America selections this year are the most in program history.
 
Johns Hopkins has now produced a school-record 32 CSC Academic All-Americans in the 2022-23 academic year. In addition to men's cross country/track & field, JHU had Academic All-Americans in football, women's soccer, men's soccer, field hockey, men's swimming, women's swimming, women's basketball, men's fencing, women's tennis, men's tennis, baseball and women's cross country/track & field.
 
Chen is just the second JHU men's cross country/track & field athlete to earn first team honors. He is also just the second to earn Academic All-America honors twice. Elmogi and Kleiman earn the honor for the first time.

• 2022 Centennial Conference Indoor Rookie of the Year

Major: Molecular & Cellular Biology
• Johns Hopkins' indoor record holder in 1000m, mile and DMR
• Ran 2^nd fastest NCAA Championship time (XC) in JHU history
• 2022 USTFCCCA Mid-Atlantic Athlete of the Year; four-time All-Mid-Atlantic
• Two-time USTFCCCA All-Region (XC) and two-time First Team All-CC
• Two-time Centennial Conference Champion, six-time CC T&F Medalist
