LANCSASTER, PA – After leading the Johns Hopkins volleyball team to a 2-1 record, including a four-set victory over second-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps,
Simrin Carlsen has been tabbed as the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
Across the Blue Jays' three matches, the junior tallied a team-best 53 kills, 35 digs, and eight service aces en route to her first ever player off the week honor. Carlsen's marks of 4.42 kills and 5.38 points per set lead the Centennial Conference after two weeks, with her .331 hitting percentage and .67 service aces per set also ranking in the top seven.
The New Jersey native started off her weekend and season with a 15-kill, 10-dig performance against No. 14 Washington University. The digs paced the Jays while her 15 kills on a .375 hitting percentage ranked second on the team in the four-set loss.
Following her 2023 debut Friday, Carlsen took over in Hopkins' 3-1 win over Colorado College on the final day of the East-West Classic. Against the Tigers, the junior tallied a team-high 20 kills, 15 digs and four service aces for a game-high 24.5 points. Working alongside
Simone Adam all match, the junior recorded at least four kills in each set — including six in the decisive fourth set to help secure her side the win.
Carlsen stayed hot in Hopkins' final match of the weekend against No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, once again leading the team with 18 kills to go along with 10 digs to secure her third straight double double in a 3-1 win. The junior remained a steady attacking force for the Jays, totaling at least four kills in each of the three sets Hopkins won, highlighted by a seven-kill second set the Jays won 25-23.
Hopkins and Carlsen return to the court Friday, Sept 15 to take on Ithaca College in Day 1 of the Ithaca Tournament, with first serve set for 6 p.m.
