FREDERICKSBURG, VA – Host and fourth-ranked Mary Washington scored three second-half goals en route to a 4-0 win over seventh-ranked Johns Hopkins Sunday afternoon in non-conference men's soccer action.
Michael Lenhard scored what turned out to be the game-winner in the 44
th minute off a free kick just outside the box. Carter Berg doubled the Eagles' lead in the 55
th minute when he ran onto a long pass and one-timed it into the Blue Jay goal.
UMW pushed its lead to 3-0 in the 57
th minute when Josh Kirkland converted a penalty kick. Edres Fekrat closed out the scoring in the 69
th minute when he slipped a shot inside the right post off a pass from Joel Albritton.
Mary Washington had an 18-11 advantage in shots and a 9-6 edge in corners. Senior
Drew Valsamedis finished with seven saves in the loss for the Blue Jays. Freddy Rogers also made seven saves for the Eagles.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 6 as the Blue Jays travel to Rowan. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
