BALTIMORE, MD – The top-ranked Johns Hopkins women's soccer team scored the final three goals of Sunday's game against 16
th-ranked Scranton as the Blue Jays moved to 2-0 on the young season with a 3-1 victory over the Royals.  Surprisingly, despite residing in neighboring states, this was the first-ever matchup between the two perennial Division III women's soccer powers.

After the Blue Jays had three golden chances to grab an early lead, it was the Royals who would strike first in transition in the 15
th minute.  Working quickly, it was senior
Mary Haggerty finding a streaking
Niamh Healy running just behind the defense more than 40 yards from the goal.  Healy touched it to herself, slipped past Blue Jay goalie
Eva Breiland who had come far outside the box and slotted her first goal of the year into an open net.

Hopkins got the equalizer 15 minutes later off the left foot of junior
Katie Sullivan.  Sullivan controlled a pass near the top of the box and ducked past a defender to the right of Scranton goalie
Nikki Olson.  Sullivan pulled the trigger from an impossible angle and stuck a shot under the cross bar to pull the Blue Jays even.

After pressuring solidly for the first 20 minutes the second half, the Blue Jays broke through at the 65:34 mark when junior
Lilah Isenberg dribbled along the flank and fired a low cross through the box that sophomore
Maria Romo-Nichols tapped into an open net to make it 2-1.

Romo-Nichols closed out the scoring 14 minutes later when she converted a penalty kick after a Scranton foul in the box.

The Blue Jays outshot the Royals 26-6 and took all eight corner kicks in the game.  Breiland made three saves in goal for Johns Hopkins, while Olson posted 10 for the Royals.

Johns Hopkins will return to action on Wednesday, September 6 when the Blue Jays welcome third-ranked Messiah to Homewood Field.

Notes of Interest:  Johns Hopkins ran its winning streak to 23 games, its unbeaten streak to 27 (25-0-2) and its regular season unbeaten streak to 36 (32-0-4) with today's win.
