BALTIMORE, MD – Fourth-ranked Johns Hopkins ended its five-game homestand with a 2-1 win over Gettysburg Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 8-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference, while the Bullets fall to 8-2 and 1-1.
Junior
Megan Chang put the Blue Jays on the board just 97 seconds into the second quarter with her third goal of the season. Graduate student
Lila Slattery kept a long pass from going out just to the left of the cage, passing the ball back out front to Chang. She collected the pass, spun around and slipped a shot past Bullets' goalie Emilia Saccento.
The lead lasted five minutes until Gettysburg capitalized on a penalty corner. Morgan Cherry received the corner at the top of the circle and fired a low shot at the cage where Cassie DeBlieck tipped it up and just under the crossbar to tie the game.
Hopkins retook the lead with six minutes to play in the third quarter. Freshman
Kaitlin Coward dribbled toward the circle on the right side before centering the ball to Slattery, who one-timed the pass into the middle of the cage.
Hopkins finished with a 9-6 edge in shots while corners were even at two apiece. Sophomore
Aubrey Kilgore finished with two saves in 45 minutes, while freshman
Jessica Lapidus made one save in 15 minutes. Saccento made three saves in the loss for the Bullets.
Hopkins hits the road for the first time in more than three weeks as the Blue Jays visit Muhlenberg on Saturday, October 5. The Centennial Conference contest is slated for a 1:00 pm start.
