Blue Jays Welcome Profs to Homewood For Final Non-Conference Game

The Game
«  Johns Hopkins (2-1) welcomes Rowan (2-1) to Homewood Field for the Blue Jays' second consecutive home game.  This is the first-ever regular season meeting between the two teams at Homewood.

A Look Back
«  Johns Hopkins slipped to 2-1 with a 41-13 loss to Salisbury on September 21.
« Rowan also suffered its first loss of the 2024 season on September 21 as the Profs fell at Ursinus, 58-14.

The Facts
«  This is the 139th season of Johns Hopkins football.  JHU first fielded a team in 1882.
«  Johns Hopkins enters this week's game with an all-time record of 598-490-57 (.547).
«  Overall, JHU owns 16 Centennial Conference titles (all won since 2002) and has qualified for the NCAA Playoffs 12 times (all since 2005).

Poll Position
«  Johns Hopkins checks in at #22 in this week's AFCA Poll and #21 in the D3football.com Poll.
« Since the AFCA debuted its poll in 1999, this week's #22 ranking marks the 135th time in 250 polls that the Blue Jays have appeared in the top 25 and the 61st time the Jays have cracked the top 10.
« The Blue Jays are in the D3football.com Top-25 for the 157th time in 264 polls since D3football launched its poll in 2003.

Oktoberfest
«  Johns Hopkins flips the calendar to October with the game this week against Rowan and the month has been good to the Blue Jays of late.
«  The Blue Jays have won 41 of their last 44 games in the month of October dating back to 2010.
«  The Blue Jays had been just 10-8 in their previous 18 games in the month of October before jump-starting the current 44-game run with a 49-24 win at Susquehanna (10-23-2010).
« During their October run dating back to 2010, the Jays have lost just once at home.

Friday Night Lights
«  Dating back to 1982, when the Blue Jays began regularly scheduling games on Friday night, this week's game will be the 62nd for Johns Hopkins under the Friday night lights.
« Since 1982, Johns Hopkins is 43-17-1 (.713) on Friday night, including 39-13-1 (.745) at Homewood Field.
« Johns Hopkins has won 15 straight home games on Friday night dating back to 2008.  The last home loss on a Friday night for the Blue Jays was a 41-10 setback to Gettysburg in 2007.
« This week's game against Rowan will be the first for JHU against a school from the NJAC on a Friday night.

A Look Ahead
«  Johns Hopkins will play at Gettysburg next week on Friday, October 11.  Coupled with this week's game against Rowan, this will mark the first time since 2016 that Johns Hopkins has played back-to-back games on Friday night.

Off the Bye
«  Johns Hopkins began regularly having a bye week during the season in 2003.  Since then, the Blue Jays have played 19 games off a bye week.
« The Blue Jays have won two straight and 13 of their last 15 games off a bye week.  In all, JHU is 15-4 in its 19 games off the bye since 2003.

Defense Among Centennial's Best
«  Through three games (all Centennial Conference teams have played three games to-date), the Johns Hopkins defense ranks among the best in the league in a number of categories.
« Entering this week's game against Rowan, Johns Hopkins ranks third in the CC in total defense (292.0), third in rushing defense (143.3) and first in passing defense (148.7).
« In addition, JHU leads the league in pass efficiency defense (104.6) and opponent completion percentage (.470).  In fact, Johns Hopkins is the only team allowing the opposition to complete less tan 52% of its pass attempts thus far.

At Home at Homewood
«  Despite the loss to Salisbury, the Blue Jays have had a dominant recent run at Homewood Field.
«  Since the start of the 2014 season, the Blue Jays are 50-6 (.893) at Homewood Field; they are 66-9 (.880) at Homewood since 2010.
«  JHU won a school-record 19 consecutive games at home from midway through the 2019 season until the 2023 NCAA Quarterfinal.

Close Calls
«  Since the start of the 2013 season, Johns Hopkins has lost a total of 16 games.  Those 16 losses have come by a total of 114 points for an average margin of defeat of 7.1 points.  The setbacks have come by one, two (twice), three (four times), four, five (twice), seven, eight, 10, 15 (twice) and 28 points in that time.
« Translation, 12 of Johns Hopkins' 16 losses since the start of the 2013 season have come by a touchdown or less.

Talarico Closing On KOR Record
«  Senior EJ Talarico is quietly closing in on Johns Hopkins' career record for kickoff return yards.
« Including his four returns for 84 yards this season, Talarico has returned 50 kickoffs for 1,163 yards (23.3/return) with two returns for touchdowns (96, 98) in his career.
« Talarico is now just 97 yards shy of overtaking Bruce Kane (1977-80) as JHU's career kickoff return yardage leader.  Kane amassed 1,259 yards on 66 career returns during his career.

Schroeder Closing on 1,000
«  Junior Geoff Schroeder has rushed for 119 yards in three games this season to boost his career rushing total to 913 yards.
« With 87 more yards on the ground, he will become the 30th player in school history to reach the 1,000-yard mark.

Peters Tops 125
«  Senior Cole Peters posted a team-high eight tackles against Salisbury and continues to lead the team in tackles with 29 through three games.
« Peters' sixth tackle against the Sea Gulls was also the 125th of his career.  He is Johns Hopkins' career active leader in tackles.
