Johns Hopkins Blanks Washington College on Meyer Goal

BALTIMORE, MD – Graduate student Francis Meyer scored the game-winner in the 78th minute to lead 17th-ranked Johns Hopkins to a 1-0 win over Washington College. The Blue Jays improve 9-3-3 overall and 5-1-1 in the Centennial Conference. The Shoremen, who had their five-game win streak snapped, fall to 8-3-4 overall and 4-2-1 in the conference.

Hopkins broke the stalemate in the 78th minute when senior Jonathan Cui was fouled in the box. Meyer then stepped to the spot and beat Anthony Pinto to put the Blue Jays up 1-0. The Shoremen were able to get just two shots off in the final 12 minutes, with sophomore Simon Turner making a save at the buzzer to seal the win.

Turner finished with the one save, while Pinto made two in the loss for the Shoremen. Washington College finished with a 6-5 edge in shots and a 3-1 advantage in corners.

Hopkins clinched a berth in the Centennial Conference Tournament with the win. The Blue Jays are currently tied for first in the conference with 16 points but own the tiebreaker with the F&M Diplomats.

JHU returns to action on Saturday, October 26 as the Blue Jays travel to Haverford. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 3:00 pm start.
