CLAREMONT, CA – Second-ranked Redlands held off a late comeback by Johns Hopkins and the Bulldogs went on to win 19-15 Saturday in the Blue Jays' final game of the Gary Troyer Memorial Tournament. Hopkins finishes the weekend with a 7-11 record on the season.
Redlands jumped out to a 10-2 lead in the game's opening nine minutes. Six different players combined for the 10 goals for the Bulldogs.
Chris Lo scored with 6:53 to play in the second to end a five-goal run by Redlands. That kick started a run where the teams traded goals over a nearly nine-minute span.
Trailing 14-6 a 3:57 in the third,
Patrick Rooney scored to spark a three-goal run as the Blue Jays pulled within five less than two minutes later. The Bulldogs answered with back-to-back goals and they led 16-9 early in the fourth.
Hopkins kept battling and
Liam Housenbold scored a six-on-five goal to ignite a 5-2 Blue Jay run.
Ian Raley scored on a five-meter shot with 2:43 to play to cap the run and make it an 18-14 game. That's as close as JHU could get however, and Nicolas Fedotov pushed Redlands' lead back to five at the 1:26-mark. Rooney added a late score to make it a 19-15 final.
Raley led Hopkins with a game-high six points (2g, 4a) and became the 21
st player in program history to notch 200 career points. Rooney finished with five points with a game-high four goals.
Owen Bartlett added a hat trick while
Andrew Lee drew three ejections to go with three points (2g, 1a).
Chris Poisler finished with 11 saves and six steals.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, October 12 as the Blue Jays visit the Bucknell Bison.
