BALTIMORE, MD – Senior
John Windley posted his first career double-double and four Blue Jays finished in double figures as Johns Hopkins beat York, 70-56, in its home opener Tuesday night. The Blue Jays are now 2-0 on the season while the Spartans fall to 1-1.
Hopkins raced out to a 15-3 lead in the game's opening eight minutes. All five starters scored during the opening stretch, fueled by dunks from juniors
Tanti Felli and
Charlie Jackson. York got a quick seven points to trim the deficit to five at the 9:32-mark.

Brian Johansson sandwiched a pair of threes around a Jayden Rowe layup and the Blue Jays led 21-12 just 84 seconds later. Ben Troyer hit a bucket in the paint to spark an 8-3 run that spanned a little over four minutes and the lead was down to four.
Felli answered with a layup on the other end to ignite an 8-4 spurt to end the half. Windley hit a floater in the paint in the waning seconds and Hopkins took a 32-24 lead into the half.
York came out strong to start the second half and used a 13-5 run to pull even less than four minutes in. Kai Cipalla did the bulk of the damage, scoring eight of the Spartans' 13 points. The Blue Jays answered with five straight, all from Windley, to go up 42-37 at the 14:43-mark. The lead was short-lived however, as the visitors came right back with a 10-2 run, fueled by Cipalla and Chris Miers, to go up 47-45.
Jackson knotted the score with a pair from the charity stripe, followed by a Windley triple, and just like that Hopkins led 50-47 with 6:56 to play. Cipalla pulled York back within one with a bucket in the paint, but it was all Hopkins for the ensuing four and a half minutes. Windley and Johansson combined for 11 of 14 points as the Blue Jays pushed out to a 64-49 lead. That would do it as the Spartans could get no closer than 13 over the final 90 seconds.
Windley led the Blue Jays with a game-high 23 points and 11 rebounds. It was the first 20-10 double double by a JHU player since Kyle Doran had 25 and 13 on January 27, 2018. Johansson finished with 14 points, five boards and three assists. Jackson also had 14 and grabbed seven rebounds to go with two steals. Cipalla paced the Spartans with 20 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three blocks. Mascari was the only other player in double digits with 14 points.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, November 16 as the Blue Jays travel to the Eastern Shore to take on Salisbury. Tip-off at the Maggs Physical Activities Center is slated for 2:00 pm.
