Johns Hopkins Downs Ursinus, 4-1, To Win Sixth Straight CC Crown

BALTIMORE, MD – Lila Slattery and Emily Amsden combined for three goals and two assists to lead fifth-ranked Johns Hopkins to a 4-1 win over 16th-ranked Ursinus in the Centennial Conference Championship game. The Blue Jays improve to 17-3 and win their sixth straight conference title. Slattery was named the tournament MVP with three goals and one assist in two games.
 
The first half was a battle in the midfield with a combined two shots before Slattery got the Blue Jays on the board in the final minute. Amsden dribbled toward the circle off a restart and then hit a hard shot that Slattery tipped in at the right post with one minute left in the second quarter.
 
Hopkins broke open the game early in the third quarter with two goals in just 27 seconds. Grace Waldeck redirected a hit by Slattery across the mouth of the cage and freshman Kaitlin Coward poked it home to put JHU up 2-0 at 32:14. Just seconds later, Waldeck dribbled down the right side and centered the ball to Slattery on the back post and she put it home.
 
Ursinus broke through and got on the board at 39:03 as the Bears' capitalized on a corner. Kirsten Johnson inserted the corner to Maeve Montgomery at the top. She dribbled right and then blasted a shot into the back of the cage and it was 3-1. Hopkins would get that one back early in the fourth quarter. Slattery took a corner insert from Amsden and hit a rocket of a shot from the near side, Amsden then tipped it into the top of the cage at 46:51.
 
Hopkins finished with a 10-4 advantage in shots and a 5-4 edge in corners. Sophomore Aubrey Kilgore made one save to earn her 17th win of the season. Adriana Palldinetti finished with three saves and got a defensive save from Montgomery.
 
Hopkins has now won six straight and 10 all-time Centennial Conference titles. The six straight and 10 conference titles overall are second most in conference history.

Notes: Slattery is now tied for fourth in JHU single-season history with 42 points • Slattery also ranks fourth with 17 goals • Amsden ranks 25th in program history with 52 career points and is tied for 19th with 22 career goals.
