Johns Hopkins Cruises to Win Over Rowan in Home Debut

BALTIMORE, MD – Johns Hopkins won 12 of 14 events to cruise to a 185-76 win over Rowan in the Blue Jays' home opener.
 
The Blue Jays opened the meet with a one-two finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Jaya Veerapaneni, Michelle Liu, Kennedy Lee and Elizabeth Cohen won the event with a swim of 1:44.95. Kimberly Lan, Katherine Chelus, Kate Petitt and Anna Miler took second in 1:46.23. Meg Susil picked up the first individual win as she clocked in at 10:38.23 in the 1000 Free. Ayden Min finished in third place with a time of 10:51.21.
 
Hopkins then turned in the first of four one-two-three finishes. Melissa Er paced the field in the 200 Free as she touched in 1:52.21. Liu took second place with a season-best 1:54.46, followed closely by Julia Tuinman (1:54.79). Lee led the Blue Jays in the 100 Back with a second-place finish and a time of 57.93. Nyah Stahl placed third in a season-best 58.32.
 
Taylor Rohovit eased to a win in the 100 Breast in 1:04.51, more than two seconds faster than the rest of the field. Chelus finished in third place with a swim of 1:07.69. Petitt then took the win in the 200 Fly as she clocked in a 2:09.40. Racehl Davis took second place with a career-best swim of 2:10.61. Veerapaneni out-touched Cochen for the win in the 50 Free with a season-best swim of 23.90. Cohen touched just three-hundredths of a second later and Alia Basler finished in 24.68 for third place.
 
Alex Watson led a trio of Blue Jays in the 100 Free and won with a time of 52.85, a season best. Miler followed closely in second with a time of 52.99 and Tuinman placed third in 54.18. Lee took second in the 200 Back with a swim of 2:04.79. Sarah Fox placed third (2:07.94) and Stahl placed fourth (2:08.20). Davis then cruised to an 11.55-second win in the 200 Breast. She beat the field to the wall with a season-best time of 2:24.56.
 
Er won the 500 Free as he finished in 5:08.59, more than six seconds ahead of the field. Susil followed in second place with a swim of 5:15.05. Petitt grabbed a win in the 100 Fly as she touched the wall in 57.09. Cohen took a close second with a time of 57.21.
 
Rohovit closed out the individual events with a win in the 200 IM. She turned in a season-best swim of 2:06.35 for the win. Veerapaneni placed second (2:10.10) and Tuinman took third (2:10.47). Hopkins then ended the meet with first and second place finishes in the 400 Free Relay. Lee, Basler, Carly White and Watson earned the win with a time of 3:35.44. The quartet just beat the team of Cohen, Liu, Miler and Veerapaneni by 0.23 seconds.
 
Hopkins returns to the pool on Saturday, December 7 as the Blue Jays travel to the Garden State for a double dual meet. JHU will take on NYU and host TCNJ at 1:00 pm.
