CLEVELAND, OH – The Johns Hopkins men's tennis team was bested by third-ranked Case Western, 5-0, in the Third Round of the NCAA Tournament Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays conclude their 2023-24 campaign with a record of 15-7, while the Spartans move to 27-5 and advance to the Quarterfinals with the win.
Hopkins fell behind 2-0 early after the pairings of
Pranav Gadiraju and
Allen Gong at the top flight and
Daniel Ardila and
Marco Azar at No. 2 fell 8-2 and 8-3 respectively.
Hanyu Liu and
Chakor Rajendra put together a valiant effort at third singles, but ultimately dropped an 8-5 decision to build the Blue Jays' deficit to three heading into singles play.
Case Western secured its fourth win at second singles following Vishwa Aduru's 6-2, 6-0 win over Rajendra, with a Spartan 6-4, 6-1 win over Gadiraju on Court 6 ending the match. In Sunday's matches that will go unfinished, Ardila held a one-set lead at first singles, while Liu, Gong and Azar all fell in their opening sets.
Hopkins' 2023-24 season comes to a close with the program's 18
th consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance.
