BALTIMORE, MD – Fifteenth-ranked Johns Hopkins jumped out to a 3-0 lead and went on to beat Haverford, 5-2, in the Centennial Conference Semifinals Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 14-5 on the season while the Fords improve to 10-8.
Hanyu Liu and
Chakor Rajendra gave the Blue Jays an early 1-0 lead when they beat Justin Minerva and Adam Chow, 8-3, at number three doubles.
Daniel Ardila and
Marco Azar won by the same score at two over James McKenzie and Kirin Eicher.
Allen Gong and
Pranav Gadiraju made it a doubles sweep, also with an 8-3 win, as they defeated Stefan Johnson and Marko Arboleda at one.
Gong quickly pushed Hopkins' lead to 4-0 as he needed just 12 games to beat McKenzie at number four singles. Haverford then cut the deficit in half with wins at five and six singles. Niki Lavu defeated Gadiraju 6-3, 6-3 at six and Chow followed with a win by the same score at five over Azar. Liu then clinched the win and a berth in the conference title match with a 6-0, 6-4 win over Johnson at three. Ardila and Rajendra were both up a set in their matches at one and two, respectively, when the match was called.
Hopkins will travel to 11
th-ranked Swarthmore on Sunday, May 5 for the championship match. It is scheduled for a 1:00 pm start. This is JHU's 17 straight appearance in the CC title match.
