SALISBURY, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's cross country team opened up its 2024 season at the Salisbury Fall Classic Saturday morning, using top five finishes from newcomers
Emma Puetz and
Carter Brotherton to place second as a team.
Puetz was the first Hopkins runner to cross the line in her Blue Jays debut, finishing fourth with a time of 21:17.3. Coming in just behind the graduate transfer was freshman
Carter Brotherton, who took fifth in her first race as a Blue Jay with a time of 21:27.2.
Adriana Catalano was next to cross the line in 21:43.8, running a sub-22-minute 6K for the first time in her career to round out the top 10. Behind Hopkins' trio of Puetz, Brotherton and Catalano, Hopkins had the second most runners place in the top 10 — behind only Maryland — beating out the likes of Navy and Seton Hall.

Sydney Shock impressed in her Hopkins debut, finishing in 13
th with a time of 21:49.8 before
Aisling Callahan (22
nd / 22:10.7),
Triya Roy (24
th / 22:15.0) and
Elena Blodnikar (25
th / 22:18.6) all finished in the top 25 to round of the Blue Jays' top seven finishers.
Maryland took first in Saturday's meet with 24 points, with Hopkins (53 points) and Seton Hall (85) completing the podium.
The Blue Jays now get two weeks off before returning to action Friday, Sept. 20 at the Haverford Main Line Invitational, with races set to start at 4 p.m.
