LEXINGTON, VA – Second-ranked Johns Hopkins scored in each quarter en route to a 5-1 win over host Washington & Lee Sunday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 2-0 on the season while the Generals fall to 1-1.
Hopkins wasted little time in getting on the board as the Blue Jays capitalized on their first corner of the day. Senior

Sophia Builione scored the first of her two goals when she redirected a hit from senior
Ava Balacek at the 25:53-mark. Just 89 seconds later, Jenna Bernstein scored on a shot from just inside the circle off a corner to get Washington & Lee on the board.
JHU looked like it was going to take a 2-1 lead into the half, but the Blue Jays earned a corner with just seven ticks on the clock. Sophomore
Caeli Robinson's shot in the middle of the circle was blocked, but Builione was right there to back-hand the rebound into the cage with one second on the clock.
The Blue Jays jumped on the Generals to open the third quarter, pushing its lead to 4-1 just 25 seconds in. Senior
Emily Amsden sent a long ball into the circle, from near the right sideline, and freshman
Zoye Iyer came sliding in and with her stick outstretched, tipped the ball inside the back post. Graduate student
Lila Slattery capped the scoring in the final minute when she slipped behind the defense, and back-handed a loose ball around Generals' goalie Julia McDonald.
Hopkins had a 16-15 edge in shots and an 11-10 edge in corners. Sophomore

Liz Falterer added a defense save in the win. McDonald finished with three saves for W&L.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, September 4 as the Blue Jays visit fifth-ranked Messiah. The top-five non-conference match-up is scheduled for a 5:00 pm start.
