TERRE HAUTE, IN – The Johns Hopkins women's cross country team was on the road this weekend to compete at the John McNichols Invitational Friday morning. Racing at the historic LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course — home of the 2024 National Championship race — it was
Carter Brotherton,
Emma Puetz and
Triya Roy all finishing in the top 15 among non-Division I runners to lead the Blue Jays to a fourth-place team finish.
Brotherton was the first to cross the line for Hopkins in just her second collegiate race, gaining more than 20 places in the final 3K to finish 9
th — excluding athletes from Division I programs —with a time of 22:06.9. Also impressing in the back half of Saturday's 6K were Puetz and Roy, who used late pushes to finish 12
th and 14
th with times of 22:20.0 and 22:21.0, respectively.
Sydney Shock was next to finish for the Blue Jaysas the 30
th non-Division I runner to cross the line with a time of 22:36.4 before
Cooper Brotherton rounded out Hopkins' scoring, with the junior's time of 22:49.4 earning her 36
th. Also earning top 50 finishes in a stacked field that included athletes from #1 NYU and #2 UChicago were
Adriana Catalano (37
th / 22:.52.5),
Mackenzie Setton (49
th / 23:11.1).
Colorado College — which was ranked 17
th coming into the weekend — took first in the meet with 79 points, with UChicago (90) and NYU (96) rounding out the top three teams. The Blue Jays narrowly finished in fourth with 101 points, beating out a trio of top 10 programs in fifth-ranked Lynchburg, eighth-ranked WashU and ninth-ranked UW-La Crosse.
Hopkins returns to action Saturday, Oct. 5 to compete in the Paul Short Invitational, with races set to kick off at 10 a.m.
