BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team returned home for the first time since December 7 and rolled past Mount Aloysius, 77-33, in its final non-conference game of the 2024-25 season. The Blue Jays sprinted to a 29-4 lead at the end of the first quarter and led by as many as 46 to improve to 11-3 on the year with their eighth win in the last nine games. The Mounties had a two-game winning streak snapped and slip to 8-7.
Â
The Blue Jays sprinted to an 8-0 lead and scored 25 of the first 27 points in the game to grab control early. Seniors
Michaela O'Neil and
Greta Miller both scored eight first-quarter points and
Beth Corelli knocked down a pair of three-pointers in the opening 10 minutes to fuel the game-opening spurt for the Blue Jays. Johns Hopkins was 5-of-10 from beyond the arc, turned six Mount Aloysius turnovers into 14 points and scored 10 fast-break points in the opening frame.
Â
The pace slowed a bit in the second quarter with the Blue Jays outscoring the Mounties 20-10 to account for a 49-14 halftime score. After the early 25-point deficit, Mount Aloysius got back-to-back
Molly Kosmack baskets early in the second quarter to trim the deficit to 30-8 and the margin was still 22 (32-10) after a Kosmack knocked down a pair of three throws with 6:43 on the second-quarter clock, but a pair of Miller layups bookended a 17-4 half-ending run for the Blue Jays that gave them the 35-point halftime lead.
Â
Johns Hopkins would outscore the Mounties 17-8 in the third period to carry a 66-22 lead into the final period – the teams battled evenly over the final 10 minutes (11-11) with
Zoe Soule (5) and
Emily Collins (4) combining for nine of Hopkins' 11 points in the final frame.
Â
In a game in which no Blue Jay starter played more than 17 minutes, the Blue Jays got a strong showing from the bench over the final three quarters, especially in the second half. Hopkins got 38 bench points on the night with Corelli (9) and Collins (8) leading the way. Every active player on the team played at least 10 minutes in the victory, the Blue Jays' fourth of the season by 40 points or more.
Â
In just 17 minutes, Miller turned in a 14-point, 10-rebound, four-assist, three-steal performance that led the way for the Blue Jays. O'Neil (11) and
Macie Feldman (10) joined Miller in double figures with Feldman adding five assists, four rebounds and three steals in just under 16 minutes.
Â
The Blue Jay defense held the Mounties nearly 34 points below their season average in holding an opponent to 45 points or less for the sixth time in 14 games this season. Kosmack turned in a 16-point, 15-rebound effort to pace Mount Aloysius, which also got a 10-point showing off the bench from
Mackenzie Barr, but only two other players scored for the Mounties, who dropped their second game in as many this season against a team from the Centennial Conference.
Â
Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, January 18 when the Blue Jays welcome Franklin & Marshall to Goldfarb Gym (1 pm). The game against the Diplomats, which will be preceded by the Johns Hopkins Alumni Game (10 am) will be the second of three straight at home for Johns Hopkins, which improved to 17-1 under head coach
Rodney Rogan inside Goldfarb with tonight's win.
