CARLISLE, PA – The #20 (WBCA)/#22 (D3hoops.com) Johns Hopkins women's basketball team outscored host Dickinson 10-3 in overtime as the Blue Jays outlasted the Red Devils, 60-53, in Centennial Conference action at the Kline Center Wednesday night.  The win, the sixth straight for Johns Hopkins, bumps Jays' record to 15-3 overall and 7-1 in the Centennial Conference.  Dickinson drops its third straight and slips to 10-9 overall and 4-4 in the Centennial.

After 40 minutes solved nothing, the teams went to the extra session tied at 50 and were still knotted at 51 as the clock inched towards the two-minute mark.  After notching 19 points in regulation, it was senior forward Michaela O'Neil who ignited a 6-0 run with a driving layup with 2:16 remaining.  A pair of Layla Henderson free throws and a Macie Feldman elbow jumper gave the Blue Jays a 57-51 lead with 44 seconds on the clock before Victoria Zerbe's layup 10 seconds later made it a four-point game.
 
The Blue Jays would salt the game away at the line down the stretch and would end the five-minute overtime period allowing just the one field goal while forcing four Dickinson turnovers to seal the victory.
 
Overtime didn't seem like it would be necessary early on as the Blue Jays built a 16-10 lead after one quarter and extended that margin to 14 at 31-17 with a 15-4 run midway through the second quarter.  Hopkins got six points form O'Neil, hit 7-of-9 shots from the floor and held the Devils to just a pair of field goals during the spree, which lasted more than four minutes and gave the Blue Jays the 14-point lead.
 
Dickinson had the deficit down to 11 at the half (33-22) and carried the momentum into the third quarter, during which the Red Devils outscored the Blue Jays 17-7 to pull within one (40-39) entering the final quarter. Claire Marion scored 10 points during the quarter for the Devils with a pair of three-pointers helping fuel the rally.
 
Zerbe got to the basket on a drive 90 seconds into the fourth quarter to give the Devils a short-lived 41-40 lead before the Blue Jays responded with a six-point run that gave them a 46-41 lead on an O'Neil free throw with 3:50 on the clock.

The Blue Jays were still up five (48-43) with just over two minutes remaining in regulation before the Devils used a 7-2 spurt to force overtime; a Jenna Weinstein three-pointer with 34 seconds drew Dickinson even (50-50) and she blocked a Feldman jumper with eight seconds left before O'Neil stuffed a Caitlin Blackman layup at the buzzer to send the game to overtime.
 
O'Neil led the way for Johns Hopkins with a career-high 22 points and added 11 rebounds and a personal-best seven blocks.  Feldman added 13 points and 13 rebounds for her fifth double-double of the season, while Henderson, Greta Miller and Grace Soltes all collected seven points in the victory.
 
Marion (16 points) and Weinstein (14) were the only two Red Devils to reach double figures and they, along with Zerbe, tied for the team-lead with seven rebounds apiece.
 
Notes:  Johns Hopkins tied the single-game program record with 12 blocks.  This is the third time Johns Hopkins has recorded 12 blocks in a game (Lebanon Valley-1990, Bryn Mawr-2023).  O'Neil's seven blocks are one shy of the program's individual single-game record of eight.  O'Neil had one 20-point game in the first 98 games of her career, but has reached the mark in each of the last two games, the 99^th and 100^th of her career.
 
Johns Hopkins will return to action on Saturday, February 1 when the Blue Jays travel to Haverford to take on the Fords (1 pm).
