Third-Ranked Hopkins Welcomes Dickinson for CC Opener

The Game
«  Third-ranked Johns Hopkins (3-0, 0-0) returns to Homewood Field and welcomes Dickinson (2-1, 0-0 CC) for the Centennial Conference opener for both teams.

A Look Back
«  Johns Hopkins capped the non-conference portion of its 2025 schedule with a 40-22 win at then #5/#4 Susquehanna on Saturday, September 20.
« Dickinson cruised into the league-wide bye week with a 52-29 win at Lycoming on September 20.

The Facts
«  This is the 140th season of Johns Hopkins football.  JHU first fielded a team in 1882.
«  Johns Hopkins enters this week's game with an all-time record of 611-492-57 (.551).
«  Overall, JHU owns 17 Centennial Conference titles (all 17 won since 2002) and has qualified for the NCAA Playoffs 13 times (all 13 since 2005).

Poll Position
«  Johns Hopkins is ranked #3 by the AFCA and D3football.com in his week's national polls.  The Blue Jays have held the number three spot in the AFCA and D3football.com rankings in each of the five polls issued thus far in 2025.
« The number three rankings from the AFCA and D3football.com are tied for the highest ever for Johns Hopkins.  Dating back to last season's final poll, the Blue Jays have been ranked third by each organization in each of its last six sets of national rankings.
« Johns Hopkins is appearing in the AFCA Top-25 for the 147th time in 262 polls since the poll debuted in 1999.  Additionally, the Blue Jays are in the D3football.com Top-25 for the 166th time in 276 polls since D3football launched its poll in 2003.

A Top-Five First
« Johns Hopkins' 40-22 win at then #5/#4 Susquehanna marked the first time in program history that the Blue Jays have defeated a team ranked in the top five in the nation at the time of the game.
« Prior to the win against the River Hawks, the highest ranked team Johns Hopkins had defeated in football was Frostburg St., which was ranked sixth when the Blue Jays scored a 58-27 win over the Bobcats in the second round of the 2018 NCAA Playoffs. 

A Seven-Game Gauntlet
« The game at Susquehanna was the seventh straight game JHU played against a team either ranked in the top 25 or listed as receiving votes in the AFCA and D3football.com Polls.  
« JHU played top-20 teams Grove City, DePauw, and Mount Union in the 2024 NCAA Playoffs and has played nationally-ranked John Carroll and Susquehanna so far this season.  In addition, Mary Hardin-Baylor (2024 NCAA QF) and Ithaca (2025 season opener) were both receiving votes in the rankings at the time of the game against Johns Hopkins.

JHU vs. Ranked Opponents All-Time
« The game at #5/#4 Susquehanna was the 40th for Johns Hopkins against a team ranked in the top 25 by either the AFCA or D3football.com since 1999 (when the AFCA Poll debuted ... the D3football.com Poll debuted in 2003).
« With the win, Johns Hopkins is 20-20 all-time against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game.
« Since COVID canceled the 2020 season, the Blue Jays have played 53 games; 15 of those 53 have come against teams ranked in the top 25 at the time of the game - JHU is 9-6 in those 15 games.

Oktoberfest
«  Johns Hopkins flips the calendar to October with this week's game against Dickinson and the month has been good to the Blue Jays of late.
«  The Blue Jays have won 45 of their last 48 games in the month of October dating back to 2010.
«  The Blue Jays had been just 10-8 in their previous 18 games in the month of October before jump-starting the current 48-game run with a 49-24 win at Susquehanna (10-23-2010).
« During their October run dating back to 2010, the Jays have lost just once at home.

Friday Night Lights
«  Dating back to 1982, when the Blue Jays began regularly scheduling games on Friday night, this week's game will be the 64th for Johns Hopkins under the Friday night lights.
« Since 1982, Johns Hopkins is 45-17-1 (.722) on Friday night, including 40-13-1 (.750) at Homewood Field.
« Johns Hopkins has won 16 straight home games on Friday night dating back to 2008.  The last home loss on a Friday night for the Blue Jays was a 41-10 setback to Gettysburg in 2007.
« This week's game will be the ninth all-time for Johns Hopkins against Dickinson on a Friday night.  The Blue Jays are 7-1 all-time against the Red Devils under the Friday Night Lights, including 5-1 at Homewood Field.
« Gettysburg has been Johns Hopkins' most consistent Friday night opponent with 17 all-time Friday night meetings.

Off the Bye
«  Johns Hopkins began regularly having a bye week during the season in 2003.  Since then, the Blue Jays have played 20 games off a bye week.
« Including last season's win against Rowan, the Blue Jays have won three straight and 14 of their last 16 games off a bye week.  In all, JHU is 16-4 in its 20 games off the bye since 2003.

For Openers
«  Centennial Conference play begins this week with every team in the league competing in a conference game.
« Dating back to the formation of the league in 1983, Johns Hopkins is 29-12 all-time in Centennial openers and has currently won four straight and 14 of its last 16 CC openers dating back to 2008.
« Seven of JHU's 12 losses in CC openers took place from 1983-1990.  Translation:  Johns Hopkins is 28-5 in its last 33 league openers.

Defense Shines in Non-Conference Action
« The Blue Jays made their run to the NCAA Semifinals last season in large part due to the play of their defense.  Fast forward to 2025 and the unit has picked up where it left off in 2024.
« In the season opener, the Blue Jays held Ithaca to just 282 yards of total offense, including just 88 on the ground, and the Bombers didn't score until just 2:13 remained in the third quarter.
« Johns Hopkins generated five sacks and forced three Ithaca turnovers (2 interceptions, one fumble) that the Blue Jay offense turned into 14 points. 
« In the win against John Carroll, the Blue Jays held the Blue Streaks to 13 points and -8 yards rushing while generating four sacks and causing one turnover.
« JHU capped its three-game non-conference slate with the 40-22 win at then #5/#4 Susquehanna.  The Blue Jays allowed a touchdown on SU's opening drive of the game, then held the River Hawks off the scoreboard until less than seven minutes remained in the fourth quarter.

More Defense
« Through three games, Johns Hopkins has collected 14 sacks and is allowing just 88.3 yards per game on the ground.
« The 14 sacks for Johns Hopkins in the first three games of the season are the most for the Blue Jays in a three-game span since early in the 2023 season, when they totaled 15 in wins against Rowan (6), Gettysburg (5) and F&M (4).

Crotty Rolling
« Junior Cole Crotty was named the Centennial Conference Offensive Player of the Week after posting eight receptions for 118 yards and one touchdown in the 27-13 win against John Carroll.  He followed that with six receptions for 157 yards with one touchdown (83 yards) in the 40-22 win at  Susquehanna.
« Dating back to last season, in his last five games against nationally-ranked teams (Grove City, DePauw and Mount Union in the 2024 NCAA Playoffs and John Carroll and Susquehanna this season), Crotty has 41 receptions for 705 yards and four touchdowns. He's had at least six receptions and more than 100 yards receiving in all five games.
« With his effort against the River Hawks, Crotty pushed his career receiving totals to 160 receptions for 2,161 yards and 16 touchdowns.  He is the 12th player in program history to reach 150 career receptions and the 15th to amass 2,000 or more receiving yards.

Schroeder Powering Rushing Attack
« Senior Geoff Schroeder leads the Blue Jays in rushing with 240 yards and six touchdowns through three games.  He also has eight receptions for 69 yards and one touchdown on the year.
« In the recent win against Susquehanna, Schroeder rushed 17 times for 120 yards and three TDs with his 38-yard touchdown run in the final three minutes sealing the victory.
« Schroeder rushed 19 times for 80 yards and added a career-best three rushing TDs (2, 2, 1) while adding four receptions for 30 yards in the season-opening win at Ithaca.
« Schroeder went over 1,700 career rushing yards in the win against Susquehanna (1,781) and now ranks 16th in school history in career rushing yards.  

Head Coach Dan Wodicka
«  Dan Wodicka is now in his second season as the head coach at Johns Hopkins.  He led the Blue Jays to a 12-2 record, the Centennial Conference title and a run to the NCAA Semifinals in his first season in 2024.
« A 2014 Johns Hopkins graduate, Wodicka spent the previous five years (2019-23) on the Blue Jay staff, including the final two of those years as the defensive coordinator.
« Wodicka launched his coaching career with a two-year stint as the Johns Hopkins' wide receivers coach (2014-15) and made stops at Northern Michigan (2016) and Williams (2017-18) before returning to Homewood in 2019 as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach.
« During 12 seasons with the program (four as a player, six as an assistant coach and two as the head coach), Wodicka has helped Johns Hopkins to a record of 115-18 (.865), nine Centennial Conference titles and eight trips to the NCAA Playoffs.
« Wodicka graduated as Johns Hopkins' career leader in receptions with 260, which went for 3,148 yards and 16 touchdowns.  He remains second in school history in receptions and is also second in receiving yards.
« Wodicka took over for Greg Chimera, who left Johns Hopkins after the 2023 season to become the offensive coordinator at Penn.
« Wodicka's ties to Johns Hopkins go beyond the football field.  His father, George, is a 1982 Johns Hopkins graduate and was a classmate of Jim Margraff.  In addition, Dan's sister, Maggie, played on the Blue Jay women's basketball team and graduated in 2020.

At Home at Homewood
«  Including the win against John Carroll, the Blue Jays have enjoyed a dominant recent run at Homewood Field.
«  Since the start of the 2014 season, the Blue Jays are 57-6 (.905) at Homewood Field; they are 73-9 (.890) at Homewood since 2010.
«  JHU won a school-record 19 consecutive games at home from midway through the 2019 season until the 2023 NCAA Quarterfinal.

t's All Academic
«  Since 2011, the Johns Hopkins football team has produced 44 CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-Americans.  Only one other Division III program has produced even 30 during that time (Carnegie Mellon (31)) and only two others - MIT (23) and Rose-Hulman (23) - have even produced 20 during that time.
« Among all football-playing schools in the NCAA and NAIA, Johns Hopkins' 44 CoSIDA/CSC Academic All-Americans is also the most since 2011.  Only four other programs have produced even 25 in that time.
