Megan Chang notched a hat trick and
Jenna Halpin handed out three assists to lead second-ranked Johns Hopkins to an 8-0 win over McDaniel Wednesday afternoon. The Blue Jays run their win streak to 11 as they improve to 12-1 overall and 6-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Green Terror fall to 5-8 on the season and 1-4 in the conference.
Chang scored the first of her three goals with 6:50 to play in the first quarter, redirecting a pass from
Grace Waldeck at the left post. A little less than three minutes later,
Eliza Vander tipped in a short pass from
Grace Nockolds on the right post after a scramble in the circle. Nockolds pushed the Blue Jays' lead to three when she poked home the rebound off a Green Terror defensive save at the 7:40-mark in the second quarter.
Hopkins erupted for four goals in a 10-minute span over the third and fourth quarters. Chang sparked the flurry with a pair of goals just 24 seconds apart midway through the third. She put Hopkins up 4-0 when she fired home a shot from the top of the circle off a Halpin pass. She then redirected a pass from
Sienna Noh on the left post to complete her hat trick. With 4:14 to play in the third,
An Tran collected a pass from Halpin, spun and lifted a shot into the cage.
Evie Hamm Hopkins on top 7-0 with 1:04 to play in the third off a penalty corner. Halpin received the insert from
Sophia Builione and the passed to Hamm, who fired a shot into the upper corner.
Caeli Robinson capped the scoring 61 seconds into the fourth quarter when she scored on a one-tier off a give-and-go with
Ada Farmer.
Aubrey Kilgore and
Jessica Lapidus split time in the cage and were not forced to make a save. Lora Scarangello played the first three quarters and made 11 saves for the Green Terror. Teaghan Rieder came on in the fourth and tallied three saves. Justin Washburn and Emma Fresconi each made a defensive save as well.
Chang's three goals are a career-high and she is the second Blue Jay this season with a hat trick. Halpin's three assists are also a career-high and give her 21 for her career. She is now tied for seventh in Johns Hopkins history in career assists. Halpin's three assists are also one shy of the school single-game record.
Hopkins returns to action on Friday, October 17 as the Blue Jays visit the 15
th-ranked Williams Ephs. The non-conference contest is scheduled for a 4:30 pm start.
