Blue Jays Shutout McDaniel, 3-0

Hopkins Remains Unbeaten in Conference Play; Improves to 19-3

BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins volleyball team extended its dominance in Centennial Conference play Wednesday evening, sweeping McDaniel in straight sets, 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-17), inside Goldfarb Gymnasium. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 19-3 overall and 6-0 in conference play, while recording their seventh consecutive sweep and 11th straight victory over the Green Terror.

McDaniel jumped out to a quick 3-0 lead to start the opening set before the Blue Jays settled in with kills from Anna Pantano, Simone Adam and Alice Yu to even the score at 4-4. Tied at 4-all, Hopkins went on a 15-8 run—highlighted by kills from Adam and Celine Ebert—to build a comfortable cushion at 19-12. A McDaniel error set up set point at 24-14, and a Pantano kill sealed the frame, 25–16.

The Blue Jays once again found themselves trailing early in the second set, 2-4, but quickly turned the tide with a three-point surge featuring kills from Adam and Ebert. Deadlocked at 10-10, Hopkins caught fire, taking 10 of the next 13 points to surge ahead 20-13. Late kills from Emily Overtoom and Pantano pushed the lead to set point, and Michela De Marzi closed it out with a decisive kill for the 25-16 win and a 2-0 match advantage.

Hopkins came out firing in the third set, racing to a 7-1 lead behind kills from Adam, Ebert and Ella Wismer, along with a key block by Yu. The Blue Jays maintained control throughout, using a 7-1 run powered by kills from Ebert, Helena Swaak and Jocelyn Pye, plus a pair of blocks from Jordan Price, to extend their lead to 21-12. A Swaak kill set up match point at 24-15, and Wismer capped the sweep with the final kill, 25-17.

Defensively, Nicole Tuszynski anchored the back row with 15 digs, while Price led the blocking effort with two rejections. Offensively, Adam paced the attack with a match-high 13 kills on a blistering .423 hitting percentage.

The Blue Jays return to action on Saturday, October 25, traveling to Fredericksburg, Va., to face Mary Washington at 1:00 p.m.
