HAVERFORD, PA – Second-ranked Johns Hopkins got goals in the first and third quarters to beat host and 16
th-ranked Haverford and give head coach
Jane Wells her 300
th career win. The Blue Jays push their win streak to 14 as they improve to 15-1 overall and 8-0 in the Centennial Conference. The Fords slip to 12-4 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
Hopkins wasted little time getting on the scoreboard with a
Sophia Albano goal just 3:35 into the contest.
Caeli Robinson dribbled down the left side of the circle and centered the ball to Albano, who redirected it past Steph Ionescu. That turned out to be the Blue Jays' only shot of the first half.
JHU got their second shot nearly 30 minutes later and it ended the same way as the first – with a Blue Jay goal. Albano inserted a penalty corner to Robinson at the top of the circle. After a give-and-go between Robinson and
Megan Chang, Robinson fired a low shot towards the cage.
Grace Waldeck tipped the ball inside the left post 3:06 into the third quarter.
The Blue Jay stood tall, limiting the Fords to just six shots and four penalty corners.
Aubrey Kilgore and
Jessica Lapidus combined for the shutout, finishing with a total of three saves. Ionescu tallied three saves for the Fords and got a defensive save from Louisa Coughlin.
JHU secures the top seed in the Centennial Conference with today's win over Haverford. Wells ranks 10
th in Division III among active coaches with her 300 wins. She is now 300-93 (.763) in her career. Waldeck is now tied for 16
th in JHU history with 64 career points and is tied for 11
th with 27 career goals.
Hopkins returns to action on Wednesday, October 29 at Gettysburg. The Centennial Conference contest is scheduled for a 6:00 pm start.
