Third-Ranked Hopkins Scores Early, Often to Top Dickinson, 55-10

Blue Jays Scored Touchdowns on First Five Possessions

BALTIMORE, MD – The third-ranked Johns Hopkins football team forced a turnover on the first play of the game, scored touchdowns on its first five possessions and held a Dickinson team that entered Friday night's Centennial Conference-opener averaging 46 points per game to just 10 as the Blue Jays topped the Red Devils, 55-10, at Homewood Field Friday night.  The win bumps the Blue Jays' record to 4-0 overall and 1-0 in the Centennial, while Dickinson had a two-game winning streak snapped and slips to 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Centennial.

Jack Schondelmayer got the Blue Jays off to a quick start as he intercepted Dickinson's Ben Klassen on the first play of the game to set the Blue Jays up at the Dickinson 23.  Five plays later, senior Geoff Schroeder went up the middle from five yards out to stake the Blue Jays to an early 7-0 lead.

Schondelmayer's interception ignited a first-half defensive effort for Johns Hopkins that saw the Blue Jays hold the Red Devils to 53 yards of total offense on 27 plays with six consecutive possessions ending in punts after the Schondelmayer pick to open the game.

While the Blue Jay defense was holding the high-scoring Red Devils in check, the offense got going quickly as Schroeder's touchdown was the first of six the Blue Jays would score before the break as they built a 42-0 halftime lead.

Following Schroeder's touchdown, the Blue Jays got consecutive receiving touchdowns from Josh Moore (26 yards) and Robby Enright (30) before another Schroeder touchdown on the third play of the second quarter quickly made it 28-0.  Moore's touchdown capped a seven-play, 67-yard drive, while Enright's came on the first play of a drive that was setup by a 34-yard Alex Orecchio punt return.

Schroeder's second touchdown of the night, which gave the Blue Jays the 28-point lead, was one of two he would score in the second quarter as he would cap the 42-point first half with a four-yard scoring run with 61 seconds remaining in the half.  His two second-quarter touchdowns bookended a 32-yard Bay Harvey-to-Cole Crotty scoring strike that account for Hopkins' other first-half score.

The Red Devils would get on the board early in the third quarter as they capitalized on a Blue Jay fumble at their own 31 yard-line on the first play of the third quarter and Cedric Benning III polished off a six-play, 31-yard drive with a three-yard touchdown run to make it 42-7 with exactly 12 minutes remaining in the period.

Johns Hopkins would add another Crotty touchdown reception and sophomore Brad Paxton wrapped 27 and 33-yard field goals around a Dickinson field goal to close out the scoring.
