SWARTHMORE, PA – Johns Hopkins got goals from its two graduate students to grab a 2-0 win over host Swarthmore on Wednesday night in Centennial Conference action. The Blue Jays improve to 10-1 on the season and 4-0 in the conference, the Garnet slip to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in the CC.
After a scoreless first half, the Blue Jays scored twice in span of four minutes and 10 seconds to take control of the game.
Jenna Halpin got Hopkins on the board with a penalty stroke goal, her fourth of the season, with 4:39 to play in the third quarter. Just over four minutes later,
Grace Nockolds settled a pass from
Sophia Builione and then scored on a backhand shot from the middle of the circle.
Aubrey Kilgore and
Jessica Lapidus made one save each in the cage to combine for the shutout. Cassandra Conklin finished with five saves for the Garnet. Hopkins outshot Swarthmore 11-5 and had a 6-5 edge in corners. The Garnet entered the game averaging over two goals on 16.5 shots per game. This was the first time this season they had been held scoreless.
Hopkins hits the road again on Saturday as the Blue Jays visit the 17
th-ranked Franklin & Marshall Diplomats. The Centennial Conference game is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start.
