BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins women's swimming team added 610 points bringing its team total to 1,014 and sits in fourth place after the second day at Loyola University Maryland's H2ounds Invitational on Saturday. Host Loyola has tallied 2,034 points after two days of competition to sit in first place after two days. Johns Hopkins is the only non-Division I program among the five competing teams.
The Blue Jays grabbed a third-place finish in the 100 Fly to open the day as
Kennedy Lee touched in 55.52.
Kate Petitt, who raced in the B final placed 10
th overall and first in the B final with a time of 56.87, as
Elizabeth Cohen added a third-place finish in the B final with a time of 57.38, placing 12
th overall.
Hopkins added two strong finishes in the 400 individual medley with one A finalist and a top-two finish in the B final. Senior
Rachel Davis placed third overall with a time of 4:31.67, as teammate
Maddie Horner placed second in the B final and 11
th overall touching in 4:38.17
In the 200 free, the Blue Jays recorded three top-10 finishes, along with a top-two finish in the B final
. Alex Watson led a trio of Blue Jays to finish in the top 10 touching in 1:53.02, while teammates
Claire Han (1:53.97) and
Julia Tuinman (1:54.14) finished sixth and eighth overall, respectfully. Sophomore
Melissa Er placed 11
th overall – second in the B final – with a time of 1:53.84.
The Blue Jays produced another top-10 finish in the 100 breast, as freshman
Renee Bak won the B final (1:05.67) and placed 10
th overall.
Lee grabbed her second top-three finish of the day in the 100 back, as she touched in 56.30 to claim third overall. Teammate
Jaya Veerapaneni joined Lee in the top 10 as the sophomore placed eight overall (57.16). Hopkins swept the top three spots in the B final as
Lily Rossmann took first (57.51) and 10
th overall,
Stella Zhang second (57.73) and 11
th overall and
Kimberly Lan third (57.74) and 12
th overall.
Rounding out the top performances on day two for the Blue Jays was the 200 free relay team of Lan, Bak, A
nna Miller and Cohen, which closed with a fifth-place showing in a time of 1:35.12. The squad of Veerapaneni, Lee, Han and
Reese Rosenthal placed eighth overall with a time of 1:37.27.
The third and final day of the H2ounds Invitational will begin on Sunday morning.
