Johns Hopkins Eases Past Washington & Jefferson, 26-4

NORTON, MA – Second-ranked Johns Hopkins held Washington & Jefferson scoreless in the second half as the Blue Jays beat the Presidents, 26-4, on Saturday night in Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) play. JHU improves to 17-5 overall and 6-0 in the MPSF, while W&J falls to 1-16 and 0-7.
 
Despite the final score, it was close early as the teams traded goals over the opening four minutes. With the game tied at two, Iason Mihalopoulos scored to spark a 5-0 run as Hopkins pushed out to a 7-2 lead. Four different Blue Jays scored during the spurt, including a pair by Ben Lucas. Aidan Miller halted the run at 5:43 in the second.
 
Hopkins responded quickly as Matthieu Giauque scored just 12 seconds after Miller. That ignited another five-goal run that saw JHU's lead grow to 12-3 late in the second. Dillon Park had the final say of the half, scoring in the waning seconds to make it 12-4 at the break. It was all Hopkins in the second half as the Blue Jays outscored the Presidents, 14-0. Nine different Jays scored during the second half run.
 
Max Blecher led Hopkins with four goals and six steals to go with one assist and one block. Hofmann also notched five points (2g, 3a) while Alec Baker (1g, 3a), Ethan Babel (2g, 2a) and Gavin Brooke (3g, 1a) tallied four points each. Giauque added a hat trick and Luke Mendelsohn had three points (2g, 1a) and two steals. Chris Poisler and Sebastian Isaacs split time in the net, finishing with 10 saves and 11 saves, respectively.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, November 9 against Austin (8:00 am) and ninth-ranked Augustana (2 pm).
 
Notes: Hopkins' 17 wins this season are the most since 2015, when JHU won 21 games.
