CHESTERTOWN, MD – The No. 5/5 Johns Hopkins women's basketball team returned to the court for the first time in more than two weeks and picked up right where it left off, flying past Washington College, 68-42, in a conference matchup Wednesday evening inside Penny J. Fall Gymnasium. With the win, the Blue Jays improve to 7-0 overall and 1-0 in conference play.
Kendall Dunham opened the scoring after jumping a passing lane and taking it coast-to-coast for the first bucket of the game. A 9-0 Hopkins run, punctuated by a
Faith Williamson corner three, pushed the Blue Jays ahead 16-6 with 3:16 remaining in the first. A late layup from
Macie Feldman widened the margin to 20-9—their largest lead of the quarter—heading into the second.
Washington College clawed back early in the second, but a deep three followed by a layup from
Lauren Knudson restored a 13-point cushion at 29-16 with 6:16 to play in the half. After nearly four scoreless minutes for both sides, a pair of
Emily Collins free throws steadied the Blue Jays, who carried a 33-22 advantage into the locker room.
Hopkins took full control in the third quarter. The Blue Jays opened the half with a dominant 10-0 run over the first 7:13, capped by a
Grace Soltes putback that pushed the margin to 43-22. Their defense overwhelmed the Shorewomen, forcing six turnovers in that stretch. Feldman closed the frame strong, scoring six of Hopkins' final eight points to help build a commanding 51-26 lead entering the fourth.
The Blue Jays continued to pour it on in the final period. Dunham knocked down a pair of threes, and Williamson added another as the lead swelled to 61-32. Washington College found more offensive rhythm in the fourth but never threatened, and Hopkins cruised to a 26-point victory, 68-42, to remain unbeaten.
Feldman led all scorers with a season-high 18 points on an efficient 8-for-13 shooting, adding a team-best nine rebounds. Soltes contributed eight boards of her own. Defensively, Hopkins forced 17 turnovers, with Dunham and Williamson collecting two steals apiece.
Stephanie Theodossakos anchored the interior with a game-high three blocks and a steal.
Johns Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, December 6, traveling to Bryn Mawr for another conference showdown. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m. inside the Class of 1958 Gymnasium.
