NEWPORT NEWS, VA – Johns Hopkins bounced back from an early 1-0 lead to beat 15
th-ranked Case Western Reserve, 5-2, on Sunday morning. The Blue Jays improve to 9-6 on the season while the Spartans fall to 6-2.
Sophia Kim and
Sahana Sanjeev earned the first win of the match as they beat Ellior Rose and Asha Shukla, 6-0, at number three doubles. Lily McCloskey and Katalina Wang answered for CWRU with a tight 7-6 (7) win over
Jay Xiao and
Lia Melvin at one. Anna Kan and Elsa Syed secured the doubles' point when they won a close 7-6 (5) match at two versus
Sydney Langer and
Sahana Madala.
Melvin pulled out a 6-4, 6-4 win at number four singles over Kan to tie the match at 1-1. Sanjeev then put the Blue Jays on top with a 6-3, 6-2 win over Shukla at four. McCloskey answered with a 3-6, 7-6 (5), 1-0 (4) win at one over Xiao to knot the score at 2-2.
Madala gave Hopkins back the lead when she won 6-3, 6-3 at number five versus Elsa Syed. Langer then clinched the win when she rallied to beat Wang 0-6, 6-2, 6-4 at two.
Aubrey Zhou closed out the win with a 7-5, 6-1 win at six over Wong.
Hopkins returns to action on Saturday, April 12 at Delaware. The match is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start.
