SALISBURY, MD – Johns Hopkins took down host and 30th-ranked Salisbury, 7-0, on Saturday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 4-6 while the Sea Gulls fall to 9-2.
Hopkins got wins at numbers one and two doubles to secure the doubles' point heading into singles' play.
Daniel Ardila and
Dylan Blenkiron dropped just two games in their win over Asher Willenborg and Jhayden Pappas at number one.
Allen Gong and
Chakor Rajendra then beat Gianluca Beaujon and Mitchell Desman, 6-4, at two. Aron Bursztyn and Gurv Suri prevented the doubles' sweep with a 6-4 win over
Mukundh Boopathi and
Zahari Stoimenov at three.
Rajendra rallied to win a marathon of a match at number one singles over Willenborg. After losing the first set 7-6 (5), he won the second 7-6 (4) to force a third set tiebreaker, which he won 1-0 (7). Blenkiron lost just three games as he beat Pappas 6-1, 6-2 at two. Ardila won 6-3, 6-3 over Suri at three to earn his 113
th combined win, moving him into a tie for 10
th in program history.
Hanyu Liu grabbed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Beaujon at number four. Gong also won in straight sets, beating Nicholas O'Dea 7-5, 6-0 at five. Boopathi needed just 13 games to grab a win over Bursztyn at six.
Hopkins returns to action on Sunday, April 4 versus Carnegie Mellon in Fredericksburg.
