ROSEMONT, IL – Johns Hopkins senior Ashley Mackin and freshman Laurel Gonzalez have been honored by the Big Ten for their performances last week. Mackin was named the B1G Offensive Player of the Week and Gonzalez was named the B1G Freshman of the Week. In addition, Mackin was named the USA Lacrosse Division I Player of the Week.
 
Mackin and Gonzalez led Johns Hopkins to a 17-8 win at 14^th-ranked James Madison and a 22-8 win over Oregon last week. This is the second Big Ten weekly honor this season for Mackin and Gonzalez.
 
Mackin totaled 17 goals, on just 24 shots, to go with three assists in the two games. She opened the week with nine goals at James Madison on Wednesday. The nine goals were one more than the Dukes had as a team and set the Blue Jays' single-game record. Mackin followed that with eight goals and three assists in the win over the Ducks. She leads the nation with 5.30 goals and 7.00 points per game.
 
Gonzalez totaled 24 draw controls and two ground balls last week. She controlled six draws at James Madison on Wednesday. She then broke the school record with 18 draws, 10 more than the Ducks had, on Sunday. Gonzalez also broke the record for draws by a freshman with her second draw win of the day. She now has 108 draw controls on the season, second most in school history. Gonzalez leads the Big Ten and ranks sixth in the nation with 9.82 draws per game.
 
Hopkins returns to action on Thursday, April 3 as the Blue Jays host the third-ranked Northwestern Wildcats. The top-five match-up is slated for a 6:00 pm start at Homewood Field.
