BALTIMORE, MD – The No. 4-ranked Johns Hopkins baseball team squared off against Muhlenberg (13-12, 3-3) in a Saturday afternoon doubleheader sweeping the Mules 3-1 in the morning game and 8-7 in the nightcap.
Jimmy Stevens erupted at the plate, blasting three home runs—two solo shots and a three-run blast—injecting much-needed momentum into Hopkins (24-3, 5-1) when it seemed to be slipping away in both games.
Game 1
The first game of the doubleheader was a pitcher's duel, with both pitchers allowing only home runs as the sole blemishes on their performances.
Muhlenberg's Tomas Pranzo gave the Mules a one-run lead with a solo home run in the third inning. Two innings later, Stevens answered with his first home run of the afternoon, tying the game.
Caleb Cyr crushed a go-ahead two-run homer in the bottom of the eighth, giving his team its first lead of the afternoon and setting the stage for
William Boneno to seal the victory. Boneno, who earned the win in relief, moved to 2-0 on the season with a dominant 2.0 innings of work. He blanked the Mules' offense, surrendering no runs, only one hit and one walk while striking out three to secure the victory.
Although
Kieren Collins received a no-decision, he delivered an impressive 7.0 innings of one-run ball, matching his longest outing of the season. He struck out three, walked two, and gave up the only run via the home run.
