Hopkins Three-Peats, Claims 19th Centennial Conference Title

BALTIMORE, MD – The top-ranked and top-seeded Johns Hopkins baseball team captured its 19th Centennial Conference Championship — and third in a row — with a dominant 14-4 victory over Haverford on Sunday afternoon at Babb Field.

Junior Jacob Harris was named the Tournament's Most Valuable Player after an outstanding performance at the plate. Harris went 10-for-13 (.769) across the weekend, driving in 13 runs, scoring seven and racking up three home runs, a double, a triple and a walk.

Haverford (24-16) struck first in the must-win final, as Harry Genth launched a leadoff home run off starter Quinn Rovner to give the Fords an early 1-0 edge. Hopkins (39-3), held scoreless in the first, responded quickly. A bases-loaded walk drawn by Jake Siani and a sacrifice fly from Dylan Whitney in the second inning gave the Blue Jays a 2-1 lead.

Rovner stumbled briefly in the third, surrendering a three-run homer to Jackson Sgro as Haverford reclaimed the lead, 4-2. But the momentum swung decisively back to the Blue Jays in the bottom half of the inning.

With the bases loaded and no outs, Harris — already the team's hottest bat — stepped up and crushed a grand slam over the right field fence, putting Hopkins ahead 6-4. Catcher Clay Hartje followed with a solo home run, going back-to-back with Harris to extend the lead to 7-4. From that point on, the Blue Jays never looked back.

The Hopkins bullpen shut the door over the final five innings. Cole Jefferson and Tyler Sugrim combined to throw five scoreless frames, allowing just two hits — one each — and striking out five.

The Blue Jays continued to pour it on late, adding seven more runs — three in the sixth and four in the seventh. Harris added five more RBIs, including a three-run shot and a two-run single. Siani collected his second RBI after being hit by a pitch with the bases loaded and Whitney notched his second sacrifice fly of the game, pushing the lead to 14-4.

Hopkins will now await its postseason path, with the NCAA Division III Baseball Tournament Selection Show scheduled for Monday, May 12, at 12:30 PM.
