Johns Hopkins Blanks Lesley, 4-0, in NCAA First Round

MIDDLEBURY, VT – Thirteenth-ranked Johns Hopkins shut out Lesley, 4-0, in the first round of the NCAA Tournament Friday afternoon. The Blue Jays improve to 13-7 while the Lynx end their season at 10-5.
 
Hopkins jumped out to a 1-0 lead with a pair of quick 6-0 wins at number one and three doubles. Jay Xiao and Lia Melvin picked up the first win of the match with their win over Mary Osucha and Lucy Boyce at one. Sahana Madala and Sydney Langer then secured the doubles' point with their win over Tali-Anna Sutherland and Pamela Manriquez at three.
 
Melvin grabbed the first singles' point as she needed just 12 games to beat Anna Stamp at number four. Sahana Sanjeev turned the same trick at three with her win over Boyce. Xiao then clinched the victory and a berth in the second round with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Osucha at one.
 
Friday's win is the 18th straight for Hopkins' in its opening match of the NCAA Tournament. JHU will take on 14th-ranked Babson in Saturday's second round match. The match is slated for a 2:00 pm start at Middlebury.
 
Notes: Xiao is now tied for 16th in JHU history with 43 career doubles wins • Xiao also moves into a tie for 22nd with 75 total wins (32 singles, 43 doubles).
